About Us

At Acuity Eye Care, we believe that having the right team of doctors and staff is incredibly important for patient service.

We value compassion, communication and a dedication to learning. And, we encourage our team to strive for these exact principles. With team members located in both Beaverlodge and High Prairie, we’re proud to represent rural northern Alberta. For that reason, we’d like to introduce you to our team and some of their roles.

Optometrists At Our Clinics

Our health care team consists of skilled and compassionate optometrists. Acuity Eye Care is based on the foundation of improving access to eye health services within our communities. Our doctors are passionate about this cause and practice optometry to the highest degree of scope in our provinces. We believe that high quality health care requires strong doctor-patient relationships and that access to local health care results in stronger communities. As optometrists, each of our doctors completed their three to four-year Bachelor’s Degrees and four-year Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degrees prior to becoming licensed in Canada. All our doctors are well-versed in the examination and assessment of the eyes and visual system. Therefore, they are able to diagnose, treat and manage ocular disease and binocular vision conditions. Additionally, optometrists recognize and detect systemic health conditions as they relate to the eyes. Our doctors work with other local primary care providers to co-manage ocular signs and symptoms of many conditions. Finally, our optometrists prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses and low-vision devices. Health care is never a one-size-fits all system and our team works together to provide customized eye health screening, treatment plans and management to help you enjoy your best vision and ocular health.

After our optometrist comes up with your personalized treatment plan, our skilled optical staff will then assist in any eyeglasses and lens selection, fitting and adjustments. Having the right lenses and eye wear to match your lifestyle is key to making your day-to-day vision effortlessly clear and comfortable. Because every person is unique in his or her interests, job demands, and personal preferences, our optical team strives to find the best lens and coating options to fit your needs and budget.

The Acuity Eye Care Team

Acuity Eye Care is built on a commitment to improving access to high-quality eye health services within our communities. Our team of skilled, compassionate optometrists is dedicated to delivering care at the highest professional standard, while fostering strong doctor–patient relationships. Fully trained and licensed in Canada, our doctors are experienced in examining, diagnosing, and managing a wide range of eye and vision conditions, as well as identifying systemic health issues that affect ocular health. We work closely with other local healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care for every patient.

We believe eye care should be personalized, not one-size-fits-all. That’s why we tailor every treatment plan to suit your unique needs, helping you achieve optimal vision and long-term eye health. Once your care plan is in place, our knowledgeable optical team supports you in selecting, fitting, and adjusting eyewear that matches your lifestyle, preferences, and budget—ensuring clear, comfortable vision every day.

Dr. Aldrin M. Santamaria

Optometrist

Dr. Aldrin M. Santamaria has been steadily moving north since leaving his hometown of Las Vegas, NV. After completing his biology undergraduate studies in Reno, he stuck around to earn an M.A. in higher education administration while working as an academic advisor for STEM, pre-health, and undecided majors. Eventually, he decided to follow his own advice and moved to Oregon, where he completed his Doctor of Optometry degree at Pacific University.

During his clinical rotations, Dr. Santamaria saw patients in a busy rural clinic in Southern Oregon, learned how to manage various ocular diseases at the Portland VAHCS, spent time in Denver at one of the top 5 busiest refractive surgery centers in the U.S., and worked alongside corneal specialists and fellowship-trained optometrists in Northern Nevada.

An academic at heart, Dr. Santamaria enjoys the education aspect the most in his clinical interactions. Outside of the exam lane, he can still be found working with students on their academic and professional goals – he currently serves as the advisor for a co-ed, professional business fraternity at UBC. You can also find him collecting Starbucks mugs on his travels with his fiancé, on Duolingo refining his Spanish/Tagalog skills, or in the lab working on specialty contact lens research for his next master’s degree.

Dr. Nanki Kaleka

Optometrist

Dr. Nanki Kaleka is an optometrist, a murder mystery enthusiast and an avid crafter. Born in Edmonton, Alberta her early schooling was split travelling between Alberta, Canada and Punjab, India. During her education, Dr. Kaleka completed a number of externships including a primary care rotation on Vancouver Island and two ocular disease rotations at a Veterans Affair hospital in Pennsylvania and an Indian Health Hospital in New Mexico. However, it was her low vision rotation at the Washington School of the Blind that really developed her love for the specialty. After graduating, she followed her passion to pursue Low Vision Optometry down south in Oklahoma City. There, she avidly learnt the ins-and-outs of low vision while simultaneously developing a significant respect for the independence and resilience of her patient population.

After 2 years of line dancing and delicious barbecue she decided it was time to move home. Thus, she returns to Alberta in hopes of providing those same services for individuals with low vision needs in and surrounding the Grande Prairie area. She is very excited to care for her patients promoting ocular health and providing comprehensive eye exams. When she’s not in clinic you are likely to find her in a local café or crafts store. Feel free to say hi!
